Numbers

And suddenly I’m lonely that phone number
so precious slyly obtained and etched into my brain
my nerve-centre with acid wit charm and the anticipation
how clever I was how utterly shrewd and beaming
from ear to ear I left for home and computer
it is there now useless and cluttering
my precious megabytes an inconvenience
I will live with and suffer for no reason
To have taken possession
I can put my finger on almost anything
could be better than this better than this
number this rotten appendix
that aches to the pit of my stomach
and after that the hunger comes
